PROJECT: ChevronTexaco Block B8/32

DUTIES: Control Systems Specialist/Operations Rep. and inspector

Hired as Control Systems Specialist based offshore on 28/28 rotation and moved  to onshore based position representing operations in new projects mainly  Stage 2 Wellhead Platforms. Working on design, inspection and construction of wellhead, platforms and upgrade projects on existing facilities. Multidisciplined, I am involved with all areas of planning, design, and installation and including E,I and C fields, piping, layout, safety, HVAC, mechanical etc. Basic function is operations rep but have acted as project engineer throughout a large part of the project interfacing with all disciplines and operations to bring a good design to the field in a practical manner.

 

JUNE 99 TO DEC 01

EMPLOYER: Siemens Westinghouse

PROJECT: Laemchabang 700 MW power plant Thailand.

DUTIES: Startup Engineer

Working as a startup instrumentation engineer on commissioning and debugging (trouble shooting) various control, system, and design problems. I was part of a team used at the end of the project to solve problems to get the plant to commercial operations and then solve warranty problems. A large part was working with PLCs correcting program errors and debugging problems in the water treatment controls. In addition I have marked up as builts, verified calibrations and loop checks and generally been solving installation / design problems throughout the site. Also field-testing control systems with vendor representatives such as duct burners and emissions monitoring.

PROJECT: Esso Thailand, Sriracha T.A.R.P aromatics plant installation.

DUTIES: Startup Instrumentation Engineer

Working as an instrument engineer on the startup team for the Esso, T.A.R.P expansion project in the Sriracha refinery. Duties include punch listing, field engineering checks drawing markups and inspection of system turnovers to the refinery. This was field intense checking all aspects of installation and design before commissioning.

  APRIL 98 TO JUNE 98

EMPLOYER: Esso Thailand

PROJECT: Esso Thailand Sriracha turn around.

DUTIES: Instrumentation Engineer

Represented the client, Esso Thailand on a “turn around” in Sriracha Refinery with Foster Wheeler as the engineering contractor. Assisted in drawing checks and site work with sub contractors to check all facets of instrumentation modifications including loop checking back to DCS etc. particular attention was paid to anti surge modifications being applied on compressors.

PROJECT: Total gas platform construction at Thai Nippon Steel Fabrication Yard Thailand

DUTIES: Mechanical, Electrical Supervisor

Managed deck crane installation and testing, including hydraulic driven platform generators for Thai Nippon Steel, plus many mechanical jobs. Coordinated efforts of subcontractors and company representatives with Total and completed documentation for gas platforms

 

NOV 93 TO MAY 97:

 EMPLOYER: Unocal Thailand, through Aquatic Engineering Thailand, Unit 502, Nai Lert Building, 87 Sukhumvit Rd, Bangkok, Thailand,

PROJECT: Construction of unmanned gas wellhead platforms for use in the gulf Thailand by Unocal Thailand

DUTIES: Instrumentation Electrical Inspector/Company rep.

Representing Unocal Thailand I worked with the Thai and Japanese engineers and craftsman, along with our inspection team to produce a good quality product for Unocal’s Production Team. The basic title was inspector but duties often involved assisting the contractor in all areas of design and construction including teaching. Design checking of systems and material acceptability for standards and suitability for the task, along with mechanical inspections of cranes, pumps, hoists, and generators. Main functions were calibration verifications on all equipment, writing and checking of all E&I procedures, drawing checks and corrections of design problems. During this period we changed from pneumatic to an automated system involving more remote data and controls to use less offshore manpower. During all the regular duties mentioned and during periods of pre-commissioning and full function testing of all equipment I also managed our small computer network and email systems.

JULY 1992 TO JULY 1993

PROJECT: Construction of a gas riser platform (ERP) for installation in the gulf of Thailand.

DUTIES: Instrumentation Consultant (onshore and offshore startup)

Advising the engineers and craftsman in calibration and installation of gas related instrumentation equipment. Duties include approval of construction modifications, drawings and checking material quantities, types and suitability. Traveled to the USA to inspect and test generators and control panels for conformance to specifications, and drawings. Debugging/programming of PLCs and configuring electronic controllers along with updating and creating logic drawings and documentation was included in the scope of work. Commissioning included all loop checking, debugging of systems and shutdown matrix confirmation. In addition to my normal duties I managed the installation start up and testing up of the HVAC and mechanical equipment.

JULY 1990 TO FEBRUARY 1992

PROJECT: Construction of an offshore central gas-processing platform. Starting in the Philippines and completion offshore, in the gulf of Thailand for Unocal Thailand.

DUTIES: Instrumentation Supervisor (onshore and offshore construction and startup)

Starting with an existing mothballed platform, we reconditioned, upgraded, constructed and did the start up of a new central gas-processing platform. My duties included directing Filipino and Thai crews in the repair, installation, calibration and loop checking of the instrumentation and associated equipment. Equipment includes pneumatic, electrical, electronic devices and PLCs. Used in temperature, level, flow, logic, and process control etc. Modifications and repairs were a common part of the job. Completed the project with 6 months offshore construction completion and startup.

NOVEMBER 1989 TO JULY 1990

Worked on small jobs as a consultant for various people and companies, such as Shell Oil Vietnam and Enterprise oil Vietnam. Duties include reporting on domestic and office, generator purchases, protection, and general wiring.

 

SEPTEMBER 1987 TO NOVEMBER 1989

EMPLOYER: The O’Brien Machinery Co. Green & Washington Sts. Downingtown PA 19335

PROJECT: A powerhouse upgrade for the Nord Rutile mine in Sierra Leone and a power plant installation on the island of Saipan for the government.

DUTIES: Field Engineer

(Sierra Leone) The first of several stages was to change out old switchgear with new 4160V gear and add and eighth gen. (2.5 MW EMD). The second stage, changed old controls and protection etc., for new. All work was done with absolute minimum down time. The third stage, added automated controls for load sharing, auto synchronization and frequency control, plus a tenth generator set. My duties were to direct installation, commission and start up equipment, while upgrading drawings and teaching staff. I was the only company representative at site.

Site Manager

(Saipan) directed construction, OF 15 MW power plant, required for emergency power on the island. With used equipment, and a short time allotted for completion, most of the design and drawings were done at site. Managing a crew of 60, we delivered power to the 15KV grid with 6 EMDs, after 3 months of construction. I then remained to complete as built drawings on AutoCAD, assist in maintenance and operation program development.

 

NOVEMBER 1981 TO MY 1987

PROJECT: Power Plants in Libya

DUTIES: Warranty Engineer

Advisor to Libyan staff while representing the company in warranty matters and directing Westinghouse employees. Instructed locals and third country nationals, in operations and maintenance, or take over of plant. Also developed maintenance and operations program.

Engineer

Start up trouble shooting, instrumentation, electrical and control problems on turbine generators set, and fuel treatment and handling facilities. This included switchgear and distribution equipment to 32 KV. Extensive calibration and debugging of control and instrumentation equipment, in conjunction with relay logic and electronic Woodward governors. I also interfaced and commissioned a protective relay system to a German substation and upgraded the all schematics. I was sent often to other plants to commission systems and startup turbines.

Electrician

Started with company as an electrician constructing power plant in Libya. Duties included HV terminations, motor controls, buss and switchgear installations and general service.

Main duties were emergency equipment repair and safety problems in electrical systems. Equipment included various motor control centers, hoists and varied construction equipment.
